The Green Fairy (Van Gogh's Green Lady)

Poem:

The green lady is spilt into the sea,
She is a fairy on this very day.
The sugar gives a light to this dream...
A painting ploted in a green haze of sweet summer,
And more fog is on its way.
She comes in the day time, she comes in the night,
But she leaves you with dreams of more.
You cut your ear in fear while under the green fairy's liquid spell,
A liquid, stary night for Mister Van Gogh.

nice poem, is it true? Did Van Gogh actually cut off his ear cuz he was drunk on absinthe, and with the drunkeness came his 'philosophical' reason for such?
